How To Remove Musty Smell From Your Towels
We live in a humid and hot environment. Sometimes, leaving our bath towels in the bathroom after use does not keep it dry. It is the same as when we use our mops. If we do not dry the mop head properly after use, it can also smell musty. A warm and humid environment like Singapore’s climate is most conducive to germs. When a towel starts to smell sour, it also gets musty and it’s a sign that a bacteria colony may be breeding and growing in your bath towel. How can you remove the musty smell from your towels?
One sure way is to air dry your damp bath towel after use. You can air it under the hot Singapore sun. It is the best way to kill germs and to get rid of odours. If you have young children in your home, it is important to hang the bath towels properly after use and to dry them.
How Do You Get The Musty Smell Out Of Towels?
1. Make sure your machine is clean
Like a dishwasher and your other regular used house-keeping appliances, your washing machine needs a good cleaning every now and then. Clean your lint filter regularly to make sure that your dryer is running as efficiently as possible. If you notice that it takes a long time to dry your towels, you may have a problem with your washing machine.
After washing your bath towels in your washing machine, remember to transfer your towels to the dryer immediately. Or to hang them to air dry in the sun rather than leave your towels with other damp laundry to dry later.
2. Tips to remove stubborn smell
If your towels continue to smell musty after washing, you can try using household products such as vinegar or baking soda to remove the stubborn smell.
3. Using Vinegar or Baking Soda
Wash your bath towels in a regular wash cycle with warm or hot water with regular detergent. Add a cup of vinegar as a natural fabric softener for the rinse cycle.
If you prefer not to use vinegar, you can replace it with half a cup of baking soda without using detergent or fabric softener. Wash your towels in a regular wash cycle just with baking soda will do.
4. Drying your towels
After using either the vinegar or the baking soda treatment for your bath towels, you need to dry them. Although lined dry laundry may feel fresher or smell better, they often leave the towel feeling stiff and hard. To keep your towels feeling soft, you can toss your towels into the dryer after line drying them. Throw in one or two clean tennis balls into the dryer to help fluff up the towels and make them feel softer.
If line drying is not an option for you, you can also skip this step and just dry your towels in the dryer with the tennis balls.
